Types of energy communities
Joint production plant (GEA)
It is particularly suitable for multi-party buildings or industrial parks. The electricity can come from any source, and a simple contract is sufficient — completely without its own legal form. The big advantage: With self-consumption, network charges and duties are completely eliminated.
Renewable Energy Communities (EEG)
Relies on local production and use of renewable energy such as photovoltaics or wind power. It works within a network area and pursues the goal of joint use rather than maximizing profits. Members benefit from reduced network charges and direct economic benefits.
Citizen Energy Communities (BEG)
Is open to technology and supra-regional. It also allows generation and consumption across network borders and thus offers maximum flexibility — but without the reductions in network charges.
